a child of the industry before he'd even had a choice in the matter, indio legrand was born in quebec, canada to up-and-coming french actress olivia legrand and established film producer marcus macintyre. the two met during the production of working girl and were quick to become an item sustained by passion, industry, and olivia's bountiful whimsy. indio's introduction to the world was met with a choir of welcome from all kinds of hollywood professionals whenever he was brought to set or sound stages. marcus's no-nonsense home had raised a very quiet, respectful boy whose only outlet for caprice was the imagination film and literature had to offer. wardrobe and makeup artists adored him whenever he was brought to work on his mother's arm and when he hadn't any books to stick his nose in, they would let him sit with the script supervisor would allowed him to follow along as the actors behind the camera went to work.

cast amongst other young actors, indio got his first taste of camaraderie with the lost boys and the darling family, all of them happy to indulge his young imagination as he played with mermaids and indians alike on set. it was this unique experience that propelled him to be more vocal about his interest as an actor, longing for the connections found while in the fox hole of production. as a result, he was given the opportunity to audition for heavier roles in grittier films which helped to add to the illusion of maturity his young self gave off. a tiny gentleman, he won over casting agents and costars alike from film to film and was always happy to engage other actors during the audition process, commonly seeing the same circle of them for many years as they all went out for young roles.

as working became more routine for indio over the next couple of years, it became less common for his mother, creating a rift between them borne of jealousy and miscommunication. thinking that marcus was more interested in his own career and indio's than the still-unmarried mother of his child, olivia eventually left both of them to pursue acting without the strings of parenthood in the summer of 2005. this cold act hit both marcus and indio hard, leading marcus to whisk them both away from canada for the duration of his next feature, jarhead. this decision caused a very emotional and still fragile indio to see the worst parts of his father and his then hollywood-crush, gareth mccrae, after the two went toe to toe with each other in a screaming match that would effectively kill his teenage fascination over the actor and put a strained distance between him and his old man. the hostility and lack of professionalism both men exuded forced him into a role of responsibility he wasn't yet ready for and he found himself smoothing over tension once both actor and producer left the sound stage.

in the years that followed, indio remained the kind, hardworking, and respectful actor he imagined the hollywood classics would be proud of. he kept his head down and had a quiet sense of humor that was neither boisterous nor disruptive. this led to him becoming a shoulder of sorts for many cast mates over the years despite his youth. this was helped by his extraordinarily strong sense of self that he never let be defined by his sexuality and he refused to compromise when child stars his age began to spiral into debauchery and drugs. sticking to small productions, indio found an agent for himself so that he could begin to pursue films without the influence or help of his father who took the act as a personal slight. the relationship between father and son began to grow strained as marcus engrossed himself in his work and the parties it opened up for him while indio stuck to his small productions, school, and the books he was constantly being enraptured by.

though he achieved small time success and acclaim for many of his indie film roles, indio's fame was never something so large that it impeded his personal privacy. this allowed him to operate and grow up mostly normal, away from the spotlight that burnt out some of his fellow actors and friends at a young age. his instagram, twitter, and snapchat all operate under a public setting which was tested for the first time when he inadvertently came out during the festival junkets for perks of being a wallflower. despite being a b-list actor at best, there was some backlash for the news and indio saw firsthand how bigoted the industry was despite operating in the 21st century. he also got to see how open his own community could be and amid the rude comments and tweets there was an outpouring of warm wishes from the lgbt community. this revelation that his son was gay seemed to be the final nail in the coffin for marcus and it became commonplace for indio to only see the man during holidays if either of their jobs allowed, but for the most part his own familial support came from his grandparents who sadly passed away soon after he relocated to california after turning twenty.

the next several years were quiet ones after perks of being a wallflower where indio worked on smaller productions that were almost always local. this allowed him to turn his venice beach bungalow into a proper home complete with wall to wall bookshelves filled from his time scouring bookstores and comic shops alike in his downtime. when he was signed on for stranger things, a nostalgia based television show that was equally thrilling as it was charming in its narrative, indio found himself confronted with his former childhood crush in the shape of a rehabilitated gareth mccrae among his cast mates. the potential for awkwardness was smoothed over before the very first table read and it allowed both men to move forward with a project that everyone on board agreed could be magical.

the stranger things family was one indio fell into with ease and he found himself at home among the younger actors and the older ones alike, happy to pulled this way and that by either as they all made a home together on set and off. the national acclaim of the show has since done wonders for his career and the option for films he might not have been privy to before has reinvigorated indio's love of an industry he was born into and will surely live forever in.
